Are they or aren't they? What hazards, if any exist from eating these? How exactly are they made?
Ok, first of all let me say that I have been oblivious to the fact that these little carrots are not grown like this. I should have thought about it; but do you sometimes just mindlessly go about life buying a product and not even thinking about that product?
When I picked these up for the first time, I believe in a Sam's Wholesale Store, it did dawn on me, "Wow how do they grow these cute little carrots?"  Maybe it is the "blonde" factor and me being so naive.  I tend to believe what I see, hear and read until proven differently.  Guess I had too many other more important things to worry about like GMOs, CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations;  Which is considered farming but in reality it is a big money maker, hazardous to the environment as well as humans, not to mention the inhumane way the animals are forced to live....should not be labeled farming) Whew! Things like that so this little baby carrot never crossed my mind.
This week on Facebook I found this circulating and shared...*some of it may be factual, some fiction so please check out the links below to form your own opinion..*
DANGER TO YOUR FAMILY!! From the Department of Life Education:
Baby Carrots:
The following is information from a farmer who grows and packages carrots for IGA, METRO, LOBLAWS, etc.
The small cocktail (baby) carrots you buy in small plastic bags are made using the larger crooked or deformed carrots which are put through a machine which cuts and shapes them into cocktail carrots - most people probably know this already. What you may not know and should know is the following:

Once the carrots are cut and shaped into cocktail carrots they are dipped in a solution of water and chlorine in order to preserve them (this is the same chlorine used in your pool).Since they do not have their skin or natural protective covering, they give them a higher dose of chlorine.
You will notice that once you keep these carrots in your refrigerator for a few days, a white covering will form on the carrots. This is the chlorine which resurfaces. At what cost do we put our health at risk to have esthetically pleasing vegetables?
Chlorine is a very well-known carcinogen, which causes Cancer. I thought this was worth passing on. Pass it on to as many people as possible in hopes of informing them where these carrots come from and how they are processed.

I could go searching all day long but you make your choice as to whether you will eat these or not.
They are cute but if given the choice when I can't grow my own, I would rather have Organic.Organic carrots Found at the Organic Guide to North America
